The Village of
Emiliano Zapata
is located in Punta Mita
Emiliano was born on August 8, 1879 and raised in
the village of Anenecuilco, located in the state of Morelos.
Both his parents were mestizo, meaning their heritage was a
mixture of American Indian and Spanish.

Historical Figures in the
Mexican Revolution
Emiliano
Zapata
(1879-1919)
Although Zapata played only a minor role in fight against Diaz,
his stature as a revolutionary grew steadily until his
assassination in 1919.
Pancho Villa
(1877-1923)

Never an
"armchair general",
Villa often led his troops into battle.
Francisco I Madero
(1873-1913)
President of Mexico in the crucial period following the
overthrow of Diaz. Madero had faith in democracy which
proved ill suited to the political climate of the times.
Porfirio
Diaz
(1830-1915)
As a rebel,
soldier, Statesman and President, Diaz dominated his country
as no previous figure in the 19th century.
Venustiano Carranza
(1859-1920)
The First
Chief of the Constitutionalist Army he assumed the presidency
in 1917 but in spite of revolutionary rhetoric, moved slowly
on the issues of social reform.

Alvaro
Obregón
(1880-1928)

President of
Mexico from 1920 to 1924, Obregón is shown here recovering
from the amputation of his right arm following the battle of
Santa Rosa in 1915.
