This year’s the Punta Mita Gourmet and Golf event was made extra special by the participation of Mexico’s greatest player of all time Lorena Ochoa. She treated a crowd of 100 people to a clinic on the driving range on Thursday night and attended the cocktail opening party at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita in the evening. The following morning she greeted players on the driving range took photos and gave autographs to anyone who asked. Following play she hosted a lunch at the St. Regis’ Carolina Restaurant and unselfishly offered her time to the participants.
A delightful person and a great friend of Punta Mita we were lucky to have her participate and also happily helped raise funds for the Lorena Ochoa Foundation in support of 365 children that she has provided an education opportunity for.
This year’s golf event was double the size of last year and saw a total of 180 golfers and over 400 participants and sponsors in both the Gourmet and Golf. This was the first time that we closed both Pacifico and Bahia courses to accommodate the increased attendance.
Players went off each day in a double shotgun start at 8:30 on Pacifico and 8:45 on Bahia. The tournament consisted of 2 formats Best Ball and Scramble. The Best Ball event was played on the Pacifico course and the Scramble event was played on the Bahia Course. Participants enjoyed several food and beverage stations throughout the course on both days as well as lunch and dinner events at both hotels following golf. Allow players may have suffered the odd bad shot both thirst and hunger were not issues over the weekend!
There were a total of three divisions that players competed in: Men’s, Ladies and Mixed. There were also competitions for Closest to the Pin as well as Straightest Drive that were measured over the two day period for both Men’s and Ladies divisions on Bahia and Pacifico.
At the end of the day we did have a list of winners but all those who competed were eligible for amazing draw prizes which included sets of irons, drivers ,wedges, putters and golf balls from Taylor Made, Champagne from Verve Cliquoe, Tequila and Whisky as well as cosmetics and designer purses and accessories.
