A Successful 7th Edition of the Tail of the Whale Member-Guest Golf Tournament
The Tail of the Whale Member-Guest Golf Tournament, the signature member event at the club, completed its successful 7th year with approximately 60 teams enjoying golf and gourmet experiences in one of the world’s premier golf resort destinations – Punta Mita. This was the first member-tournament for new Golf Director, John McIntyre, who came to Punta Mita in 2017, saying “I am elated to be joining a team that is so committed to delivering outstanding services to a discerning community with unparalleled fairways, where residents crave uniquely memorable experiences.” And with the Tail of the Whale tournament, he certainly helped create precisely that experience.

This year, the fun started with practice rounds on both the Pacifico and Bahia courses on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a cocktail party Thursday evening at Kupuri Beach Club with music, signature cocktails from Tequila Patrón and live food stations prepared by Executive Chef Pato Pérsico, guest chefs Maycoll Calderon and Thierry Blouet, and favorite Punta Mita restaurant Si Señor, Punta Mercedes, Tuna Blanca and Tacos & Papas.

Friday morning kicked off with a gourmet breakfast under the tent on the practice range before a shotgun start to 18 holes of play, with men playing the Pacifico course and ladies on the Bahia. Keeping spirits light and stomachs happy, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita provided gourmet sandwiches, a specialty cocktail and beer along the way. Friday evening concluded with the now famous Punta Mita White Night Dinner, with a traditional roasted pig, fresh fish tacos and dancing until late night to the sounds of the Punta Mita resident DJ.

Saturday morning. After another superb breakfast on the driving range, players headed out for the second competitive day of play, with men switching to the Bahia course and women to the Pacifico. Players refreshed with drinks and snacks from the live taco station before the Men’s Championship Shootout. The golf portion of the weekend concluded Saturday night with the Tail of the Whale Awards Party complete with cocktails & dinner by the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita culinary team, awards ceremony, door prizes, fireworks and dancing to the live band and DJ.

For non-golfers, this year’s event also included a Wellness and Nature package which included yoga and a whale-watching excursion and golfers, spouses and friends gathered for Super Bowl Sunday at the Residents Beach Club & Kupuri Beach Club to cheer their teams.
